besides of being blurred the photo doesn’t show a big difference between my last step in Australia and my first step back in Europe, which, in fact, it was!
What does this tell us?
Europe in front of my cabin.
I love the whole globe, but I think I am at home in Europe, precisely Vienna…
At night, Jochen and I tried to find a position for him to sleep, but it was nearly impossible. He could only lean sitting near the wall and lay the hurt arm on some pillows. He is brave and I didn’t feel comfortable with my healthy body that allows to turn around in bed without pain. We had the doors to our cabins open and in the early morning, I went to his cabin to see if I can help him in any way. He seemed to sleep but later said he didn’t sleep at all.
Meanwhile the ship landed and after breakfast, we waited for a call to go ashore and to hospital.
With a taxi of the agency we left the port and went to hospital were the driver was very helpful with finding everything.
Jochen had hoped that they would fix it fast, but they wanted to operate under anaesthesia, so, first they waited until he was sober (6h after breakfast) and so the day was done for him,
The driver had brought me to the office of her company. No one was there but I could use the wifi and worked there for nearly 4h. We came back to the hospital and waited another hour until Jochen came back.
He soon got up and was quite fit, so he could leave. The driver is not only driver but coordinator in cases of illness or accidents of crewmembers. The captain or the shipping company call their agent and he calls her and she comes to the port and does everything until the patient can go back to the ship. So, in Jochen’s case she drove to a pharmacy to get the prescribed medicine and after that had some paperwork in the office until we finally went back to the ship. Jochen wanted to photograph the ship, so she went to bow and stern of it, then we boarded.
I had to bring back one of the papers with stamps of the ship’s office to her. Most probably, CMA CGM will come up for the costs of transport and treatment of Jochen, maybe because the stairs were not only generally dangerous but slippery on that day.
Jochen and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast, so we enjoyed dinner the more. He felt much better but of course had still a handicap.
